Yea!! Only two and a half days left of school. We are all so ready for school to break up for the summer--Well ........ maybe Andrew isn't. He told me he doesn't want school to end. Kindergarten is the best--I know. How can you get over the upbeat teachers, the fun projects, the cool songs , twenty new friends who play with everyone, and being away from mom and dad for the first time in your short life?! On Tuesday he gets to go to two Bar-b-Ques for the morning and afternoon kindergartens. What a way to end the year!! He finally had his name announced over the intercom for his AR (accelerated reading) points--68!! That is over 136 books read in half a year! We have just about covered the entire early reader section of the school library. What a job. He was so excited to be famous for two minutes.
Steven also acheived a little bit of fame this week. The school district set aside $50,000 to give out to teachers as a sort of merit bonus and Steven and his co-teacher, Mrs. Perry, both received a $1,000 of it and a plaque naming them teachers of the year. It was such a nice honor. He has worked so hard getting up at 5:00 each morning and staying at school until 6:00 each day, working through lunch time, creating exciting activities and fun memories for his 6th graders. He also had the extra distinction of having the highest Accelerated Math and Math ISAT scores in the whole district. I am so glad they took notice. He is an awesome teacher.
As for me, I love my silly boys, all 15 of them and the 4 girls that drove them all to distraction. We have been through a lot together---lice and more lice, walking in the rain while they dare eachother to eat worms, sickness, fighting, struggling to read and do math, playing jump rope at recess and lightening---Lots of good memories and shruggings of disbelief. They all come with adult problems and kid know how and yet they always manage to have a smile and a sparkle in their eyes. We all need a break, but it will be sad to see them go.

That is awesome for Andrew! I am so proud of him! Also, that is really cool for Steven to be recognized for his work. Teachers are not paid enough!!!
Way to go Andrew and Steven. Behind everygood man (any age) is a good woman. Way to go Maria. I wish my Hallie could read or learned to love reading like Andrew. There is nothing better than a good book. Tell Steven congrats. I saw his name in the paper and thought that was so cool and he deserved it. I wish my kids could have him as a teacher. Super neat ISAT scores. That is an accomplishment.
I'm back. Thanks soooooo much for the book list. I'll definately put all of them on my list to read. I'm a terrible person because I don't go to the library but tend to just buy books. A bad but good habit. Do you have Book of a Thousand Days that I could borrow. I know that you told me before that it was really good. I think that just may be the book I want to hook up with. If not maybe I'll break down and visit the library. Thanks again. Congrats---no more school!
